What Patients Want To Know About Dental Implants
- July 2, 2016
Hello and welcome back to the Gentle Dental Care Blog!
We hope that your summer is off to a great start and that you have plenty of reasons to smile this 4th of July.
If you are an adult who is missing teeth, we know that you may not feel much like smiling.
But in honor of Independence Day, we want to turn you on to a liberating solution that can permanently restore your health along with your appearance and self-confidence: dental implants!
We thought it would be useful to explore the most common questions that our patients ask during their consultation. When you are finished reading, be sure to get in touch with our team to schedule your own visit to our Central Connecticut dentist’s office.
Will The Job Be Done In-House?
Yes! And you will be in good hands with us.
Our leader, Dr. Thomas Peltzer, is a member of The International Congress of Oral Implantologists and has amassed extensive experience surgically placing dental implants as well as restoring implants with crowns, bridges, and implant-retained dentures.
Is The Procedure Painful?
No! It is a surgical procedure. That said, we are the gentle dentists!
As such, you can rest assured that we will do everything in our power to make it a pain-free and pleasant experience for you. That includes employing sedation dentistry techniques to ensure that your visit is comfortable.
Are Dental Implants Comfortable?
Yes! Our implants are designed to fit like your own teeth would. No other artificial option even comes close to feeling this comfortable in your mouth.
Will Implants Help My Appearance?
Yes! Your smile will be complete again. And there will be more facial structure support (i.e. no more collapsed elderly looking cheeks). So, your looks will improve along with your self-confidence.
What Kind Of Implants Are Available?
There are multiple options besides individual implants. We currently offer:
All-on-4, which is an upper or lower arch of replacement teeth attached to four implants.
All-on-6, basically an upper or lower arch of replacement teeth attached to six implants.
Implant-retained dentures, this entails removable dentures that snap onto an implant-supported bar or are connected by balls and sockets.
Implant-supported dentures, this is a permanent full or partial dentures secured to several implants.
Fixed bridge, this involves two or more implants supporting a few teeth to permanently fill a gap left by missing teeth.
How Long Will Dental Implants Last?
That is up to you! Really it depends on your efforts to maintain them.
We are upfront about it: implants are made to last the rest of your lifetime but they will require some TLC, just like natural teeth.
Brushing twice a day, flossing and rinsing regularly, and visiting the dentist every three to six months will keep you smiling for many years to come.
