Dental Sedation For Fear & Anxiety
- September 15, 2016
Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Gentle Dental Care blog!
Our leader, Dr. Thomas Peltzer, is nationally respected as an expert in the field of sedation dentistry and dental anesthesia. That is good news for you if you are afraid of the dentist or prone to anxiety.
Dental anxiety is a serious condition that impacts the oral health of millions of Americans, including many folks right here in Central Connecticut.
If you can relate to those kind of issues, then you are just the sort of patient we envisioned helping when we started Gentle Dental Care.
To keep make it easy for you to get the dental healthcare you deserve, we have always offered sedation at our office.
This includes nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation, for more intense cases.
Keep reading to find out how sedation dentistry can help improve your situation, and then be sure to schedule your next appointment at our Plainville dentist’s office!
Dental Fear Is Not Unfounded
For most patients, dental anxiety is the result of a bad experience in the past. Maybe you had a dentist who was rude or condescending or subjected you to a painful procedure without adequate preparation. Those kind of scenarios can haunt you for a long time. But our goal is to make new and better memories of the dentist’s office for you to carry forward.
Besides creating a calm and welcoming space, we will assess your specific needs in terms of dental sedation and allow you to relax those nagging fears long enough to get treated.
Why does it matter? Because, if you don’t confront the reality of the situation in your mouth, you will only be making it worse for yourself. By the time you have no choice but to come in, you may need more costly and unpleasant cures for what ails you. There is also a strong link between oral health and general wellness. That is nothing to take lightly.
It does matter, and we do care. As such, we will do whatever it takes to help you feel more at ease in our office. There is a reason that Dr. Peltzer named us “Gentle Dental Care.”
At the low end we offer nitrous oxide. For this you just inhale the so-called laughing gas and very soon you will begin to feel its effects. When we’re finished with your work, we simply turn off the gas. Just as quickly as it took effect, the gas wears off as you breathe it out of your system. Then you are good to go on with your busy day as planned.
The next level involves oral conscious sedation. This is where you ingest a pill before your appointment. Fair warning: you will need someone to drive you to and from our office because this is a more powerful sedative than laughing gas.
IV sedation is the highest level of sedation available here. This is for severe anxiety or complex procedures. You won’t be able to drive after this one, either.
