  • January 8, 2018

What’s the go-to comparison when you’re talking about how much you don’t want to do something? Whether it’s visiting your in-laws or a much-maligned chore, chances are, you’ve thought, “I’d rather have a root canal.” Somewhere along the line, root canal therapy got a bad reputation. But at Gentle Dental Care, we want to challenge your assumptions with our ‘gentle’ approach to root canals!

We believe that root canals can actually be no more unpleasant than having a cavity filled. All it takes is a highly skilled dentist like Dr. Peltzer, some local anesthetic, and dental sedation — and voila! You’ve got yourself a pain-free and stress-free root canal.

Read on to learn about how we go the extra mile to ensure your root canal experience is a pleasant one. Then, if you’ve been putting off an important trip to the dentist for fear you might need a root canal, call our Plainville, CT office at (860) 479-2397 to schedule a consultation.

1. A Knowledgeable Dentist Who Wants To Keep You Informed.

When it comes to dental anxiety and patient comfort, Dr. Peltzer knows his stuff. He is a nationally recognized expert in the field of sedation dentistry, which focuses on the use of certain medications to ensure a comfortable and stress-free experience for his patients. You’re in good hands when you’re with Dr. Peltzer, and he’ll help you feel reassured.

We also believe that part of patient comfort is having the information you need to take ownership of your dental care. Knowing what to expect can help ease the tension and help you relax.

Here’s a quick breakdown of a root canal procedure at Gentle Dental Care.

A root canal is often necessary to save a natural tooth where the tissue inside it has become badly infected. This infection can cause a great deal of pain. So, the goal of a root canal procedure is to clean out the infected tissue and replace it with an inert material that will prevent future infections. We’ll then cap the tooth with a dental crown to restore its healthy appearance.

Of course, your mouth will be thoroughly numb during the procedure, and we offer IV sedation to maximize your comfort.

2. IV Sedation Makes For A Pain-Free Root Canal.

At Gentle Dental Care, the secret to truly pain-free root canal is IV sedation. This deep form of dental sedation is administered intravenously, so it’s fast-acting and it makes it easy for us to monitor your level of sedation throughout the procedure.

While under the effects of IV sedation, you’ll experience the dental work while in a dream-like state. Dr. Peltzer has extensive experience with IV sedation from working and training in hospital and outpatient surgery centers. We use IV sedation almost exclusively here because we think it’s much safer than oral sedation and more comfortable for the patient.

During your procedure, as at all other times, your safety is our No. 1 concern. So, we have invested in hospital-grade technology to monitor your vital signs, and we always have backup monitors available and a backup power supply. While you’re under the effects of IV sedation, we always have Dr. Peltzer and two assistants in the room constantly monitoring your safety and comfort. Additionally, Dr. Peltzer wears an earpiece to monitor your breathing.

Once your root canal is over, it’s likely you’ll still feel the effects of the sedation. So, we ask that you have a trusted friend or family member drive you home afterward. We take your safety very seriously, and we want you to arrive home safe and sound for a quick recovery!

3. Excellent Care After The Procedure Is Over.

After your root canal is over and the sedation wears off, you might experience some discomfort in the following days. You can expect this to last only a day or two, and Dr. Peltzer can prescribe you root canal pain medicine or suggest over-the-counter pain relievers that can improve your recovery experience.

Dr. Peltzer will provide aftercare instructions to help ensure a prompt recovery, but if you have any questions about your recovery or procedure, we’re just a phone call away!

If you have questions about paying for your treatment, our friendly administrative team can help you with any inquiries you have about your insurance plan or our payment options. You shouldn’t have to stress about high-quality, comfortable dental care. We want you to focus on getting better and enjoying your new and improved smile!
