Your Guide To Overcoming Dental Anxiety
- March 15, 2018
When Dr. Peltzer was younger, he had a bad experience at the dentist — one that followed him into adulthood. He didn’t want anyone to suffer emotionally the way that he had, so he built a practice in Plainville, CT that prioritizes patient comfort!
At Gentle Dental Care, we know that as many as 15 percent of Americans experience severe anxiety surrounding their visits to the dentist that actually prevent them from getting the care they need, and it’s not an easy thing to overcome. That’s why dental anxiety and fear are among the first things we discuss with new patients.
We want everyone to feel comfortable in our office. Read on to learn about some of the ways we ease tension at Gentle Dental Care. Then, come experience our commitment to your comfort! Call us at (860) 479-2397 to schedule an appointment.
Safe Dental Sedation In Plainville, CT
Many dentists offer dental sedation, which is the use of medication to increase patient comfort during dental work. But Dr. Peltzer is a nationally known expert in the field of sedation dentistry and has had lots of experience training and working in hospitals and outpatient centers. He has completed advanced anesthesia training at the University of Southern California, far surpassing the state’s recommended educational requires.
Dental sedation is one of the most rewarding things we offer here at Gentle Dental Care because many times, it’s necessary for a patient with severe dental anxiety to be able to get the care they need!
We offer three kinds of sedation:
- Laughing gas, which provides a mild euphoric sensation.
- Oral sedation, which is a pill that helps you relax before your dental work.
- IV sedation, which is what we use almost exclusively. It allows you to experience a pain-free and stress-free procedure.
Dr. Peltzer goes to great lengths to ensure that your experience with sedation is safe and comfortable. When you opt for IV sedation, there are at least three staff members in the room — Dr. Peltzer and two or more assistants — monitoring your vital signs and sedation levels at all times. We have a 100 percent safety record, and we plan to keep it that way!
Comfortable Comprehensive Care
If you’re already nervous about dental work, the last thing you want is for your regular dentist to constantly refer you to unfamiliar offices. Wouldn’t it be great if the dentist you trust with routine exams and cleanings could meet most if not all of your dental needs?
Taking Matters Into Your Own Hands
There are a number of things you can do to set yourself up for dental success if you face fear and anxiety. Breathing exercising and muscle relaxation techniques are effective at easing tension, and they’re often recommended to adults suffering from severe anxiety.
But one of the best things you can do for yourself is to choose a dentist who understands where you’re coming from and won’t try to deflect or downplay your emotions about going to the dentist.
