Restorative Dentistry Restores The Health Of Your Smile!
- June 18, 2016
Welcome back to the Gentle Dental Care blog!
We know that you are most likely doing your best at home to keep your mouth clean and your smile looking great. But keep in mind that if a cavity should ever take hold, it will be better for you to detect and treat that decay in its early stages, so that your health and quality of life can be restored quickly and painlessly.
This is what restorative dentistry is all about, and that is why you will want to keep up with your regular appointments, so that we can stay on top of things. Lucky for you, at our Plainville practice, the team is led by Dr. Thomas Peltzer, a highly experienced restorative dentist who will not shy away from any problem. We will do whatever it takes to get you back on-track fast.
Keep reading to hear more about this realm of dentistry, and then be sure to get in-touch if you suspect that you may need to receive any restorative services.
When Things Go Awry
Here’s the thing: when cavities begin to eat away at your tooth, a small hole will develop. There won’t be any major alarm bells but you might start to notice the presence of uncharacteristically bad breath and an increased sensitivity to both hot and cold substances. In all likelihood, you won’t be able to tell on your own that a cavity is taking hold.
This can be a problem because if treatment is not administered early, you might be left with the need for a root canal, or worse. You could be dealing with an extraction followed by a tooth replacement procedure in some cases.
Fillings Are A Fast Fix
Dental fillings have been protecting teeth that have been damaged as the result of cavities for many years. If you are of a certain age, you likely remember the annoying metallic fillings that used to be commonplace. Fortunately, around here, we no longer use the mercury-based materials to get the job done.
Mercury-Free Is Your Best Bet
The material we use for fillings now, composite, is made from a mix of plastics. That means that these fillings can be matched to the color of your teeth, and won’t show up as dark metallic blotches. They also won’t bother you in the event that you have metal-related allergies.
We get a lot of folks who ask if these are as effective. The answer is an emphatic yes! Once a composite filling is placed, it is just as effective as an amalgam filling, lasts just as long, and will not negatively impact your appearance. Sounds pretty good, right?

Like we said, if the situation merits it, we can take more drastic measures to save your smile. At Gentle Dental Care, we can provide root canal therapy, bridges, crowns, veneers, and implants.
