School Starts Soon, So It’s Time for Family Dental Care

  • August 6, 2018

It’s August! If you have kids, you’re gearing up for back to school. If you’re an organized type, you’re probably shopping for school supplies and stocking up on snacks for lunches. If organization isn’t your thing, you’re likely just wondering how the heck it’s August already.

Either way, it’s a good idea to make appointments for family dental care before school gets under way. Dr. Thomas Peltzer can help you get caught up on dental cleanings and other routine care before classes start. When permission slips start to come home every week and your calendar fills, you’ll be glad you did!

Call our Plainville, CT dental office today at 860-479-2397 to make appointments for your children – and yourself too. Unlike some general dentists, we offer Friday hours. We also offer extended hours several days a week, so it’s easy to get your family’s appointments on the schedule. For example, we open at 7 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday and stay open until 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Family Dental Care Includes Exams & Cleanings

It’s tempting to put off dental exams and cleanings when schedules get busy, especially if you’re scheduling for several family members. Don’t do it! To keep teeth in good shape, you should visit our Plainville, CT office every six months for these services.

Our team will clean the plaque and tartar from your children’s teeth. Even if your kids brush and floss regularly at home, it’s easy to miss areas between the teeth and around their gums. Dr. Peltzer may also recommend dental sealants and/or fluoride for added protection against cavities.

If we find any cavities, Dr. Peltzer will repair them with a dental filling. We use tooth-colored composite fillings. Your kids won’t feel self-conscious about silver spots in their smile, and you won’t have any health concerns about mercury in metal fillings.

Dr. Peltzer will also check your child’s teeth to ensure they are developing as they should. If he sees any alignment issues, he may suggest orthodontics. Depending on the nature of their dental issues, we may be able to treat them in our office with orthodontic aligners. Unlike metal braces, aligners are practically invisible.

Your Athletes Will Need Custom Mouthguards

According to an article in the Journal of the American Dental Association,13-39 percent of all dental injuries are sports-related. The best way to prevent these injuries is with a mouthguard. If your kids play sports that involve physical contact, running, and/or balls that are ever near their face, we recommend getting them mouthguards.

You can buy mouthguards at a sporting goods store, but they won’t protect your kids as well as a custom-made mouthguard. We take impressions of their teeth so mouthguards will fit perfectly and be more comfortable. In addition, Dr. Peltzer will make sure their mouthguards have the appropriate amount of protection for the sports they play. We can even customize their mouthguards with team colors and your children’s names!

Get Cosmetic Dentistry to Look Great in Class

If you’ve got children in high school or college, they may be interested in getting cosmetic dental treatments before they go back to school. The better their smiles look, the more confident they’ll feel – whether they’re asking someone out on a date or making a presentation in class.

Our cosmetic dentistry procedures include:

  • Dental veneers. Applied to teeth, veneers hide flaws like chips, stains, or gaps.
  • Teeth whitening. Get a treatment in our office or we’ll supply your students with professional-strength whitening kits to use at home.
  • Teeth contouring. We can remove minimal amounts of enamel to correct minor imperfections.
  • Tooth bonding. We apply layers of composite to your teeth for this affordable treatment.
  • Orthodontics. BPA-free plastic aligners are a convenient alternative to metal braces. Aligners can be removed for meals, so your child won’t have to avoid crunchy or sticky foods.
