Why Dentures Are Better Than They Used To Be!
- August 5, 2016
Hello and welcome to another August edition of the Gentle Dental Care blog!
This post goes out to all the folks who are missing teeth.
It is bad enough to suffer through the indignity of losing teeth as an adult. But it only adds insult to injury when you are set up with a solution that is doomed to fail.
What are we talking about? Poor-fitting dentures for one thing!
You see, we have a lot of what we call ‘denture mills’ in the Central Connecticut area where you just walk in and it’s almost like you put your hand in a bucket and pull out a pair of teeth to see if they fit. We are exaggerating, of course, but the reality is not much better than what we just described.
But, when you come here to our Plainville office, you will see that it is a process of very meticulous impression making and molding.
We will also talk through your options for utilizing implants to secure your dentures in place.
In fact, with today’s post, we can get into some of that. Keep reading to learn more about modern dentures, and then be sure to follow up with our team to take the next step towards a more confident smile.
What Are Dentures?
A denture is a prosthetic dental appliance used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissue.
It is supported by the surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. A dental denture is made to closely resemble your natural teeth and gums, improving your appearance and helping you chew and speak as normally as possible.
Will Dentures Allow Me To Eat The Foods I Love?
Yes! This is an excellent restorative solution for helping you chew fiber-rich food. As such, it will help you boost your health, your appearance, and your self-confidence!
What Do Full Dentures Entail?
These are a full set of replacement teeth connected to a thin plastic base colored to look like your natural gums. This base is customized to fit snugly and comfortably over your gums, allowing you to talk, eat, and look normal again.
What About Partial Dentures?
If you are not missing an entire arch of teeth, a partial denture could be just what you need to get back on track. These work much like full dentures and they too are artificial teeth set in a natural-looking base that fits over your gums. But for additional strength, they use clasps to hold onto the teeth near the gap.
Can Implants Stabilize My Dentures?
Yes! We have multiple options for this: implant-supported dentures and implant-retained dentures:
Using your existing dentures, we can modify them with one of two systems, either bar-retained or ball-retained, which will allow your denture implants to securely snap into place on implants that are placed in your jaw. It’s an amazing solution that will still allow you to take your dentures out in the evening. You’ll simply pop your dentures in place each day and experience a great new stability in your smile!
The most secure and permanent teeth replacement option is a denture secured permanently to dental implants. If you are a good candidate for dental implants, we will evaluate how many implants would give you the best support for your permanent dentures.
Are Dentures An Effective And Affordable Solution?
YES! Dentures provide a practical and cost-effective solution for restoring your smile following tooth loss as an adult.
